Fit is excellent. Well made, except for one question: is the logo supposed to be centered? Not a big concern. Can't wait to wear it next year.
The gear looks and feels great, also saved our heads already from a couple of minor, but still bumps from the surfboards!

I was looking for a different kind of helmet from the classic windsurf bucket type helmet that would combine protection, ergonomics and good looks. Didn't know to exactly expect from a hat helmet, but decided to go on and purchase the Reef Ranger 1.0. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the hat, both the fabric, the features and most importantly the fit. It sat deep on to my head, covering nearly all the head area. It felt like a full face helmet but with out the face restrictions. It is also light enough to feel comfortable. Next was to test it in water. I felt like I was wearing my regular surf hat, freedom of movement especially in freestyle tricks and my head did not get tired after an 1 hour session. Also the hat did not move during my wipeouts. Overall I am very satisfied. My only point is that I would like the inner shell to have some more coverage on the back of the head. I would definitely recommend it to any surfer, wave or wind. We just got back from our surf trip where we used the hat with helmet every day. It definitely brought a feeling of safety and more comfort in the water! 😊🏄♂️🏄🏻♀️
Excellent piece of kit. We had to exchange the hat for a different size, and the exchange process was super smooth - great customer service ❤️
I was hoping that the brim of the hat was a little bit more stiffer and wish that the cap cover the back of your head

The quality is overall very solid. I especially like the brim—it's the perfect length and stiff enough that it doesn't flop down or block my vision in the water. I’m not sure about its long-term durability yet, but I really hope it stays this rigid over time.
The only slight downside is the protective insert/helmet part, which doesn't offer much cushioning. That said, I totally understand that due to the compact profile and bulk constraints, using a hard shell/insert was probably the best design compromise.

Love the color! I bought this to replace the green version that I bought with the helmet earlier in the year. A large wave took one of the helmet clips 😅. I love how much confidence I have to charge when wearing this with the helmet. Won’t surf without it 🙏🏽
Sorry for late response ,but i have chance to test just now. The hat is well made ,nice fit , good looking but it miss back head protection which is also important.

Just to share a little context, the current design of the back coverage is intentional to keep things lightweight and streamlined for water activities while still being protected. However, we truly value your feedback about needing more back head protection, and we wanted to let you know that we are currently developing the Reef Ranger 2.0, which will feature full 360-degree coverage!

Brilliant, Versatile Surf Hat
I’m really pleased with my recent SMILE Surf Wear purchase. I use it for kayaking and as my everyday hat, and it perfectly fills the gap between wearing nothing and using a full helmet. It is well made, comes in great colours and, most importantly, fits comfortably, looks great and works exactly as it should. Brilliant product—I would highly recommend it!
I absolutely love my SMILE Surf Wear hats. They’re comfortable, fit really well and are perfect for long days on the water. I love the designs too they’ve become a regular part of my wingfoil trips and I always get compliments on them.

I ordered my Smile bucket hat for my surf trip
to Pavones CR where there are lots of rocks and cobblestones. The first cap that I ordered didn’t quite fit, and the price to ship it back for exchange from Canada was the same price as I hat itself. I spoke to Customer Service and they graciously offered to send me the next size free of cost!!! Everything got to me in time….. I was so happy to have it for my trip!!!
Not only is the brim the widest of any surf that I’ve used in the past providing excellent sun protection, the bump cap insert definitely saved my noggin on multiple occasions. I put my hat through the wringer and it didn’t come off in big waves and drag me like some other hats I have tried and it looks attractive.
